Things are set to get a bit chillier at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as the comedy star Nick Frost (get it now? Frost? Chilly… cold? Got to try stand-up) is set to join the Harry Potter TV show cast.
According to Deadline, Frost, who made his name starring in some of the best movies of all time – Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz – is on the verge of signing a deal to play the fan-favorite character, Hagrid.
Unsurprisingly, HBO – the studio adapting the Boy Who Lived’s story for the small screen – has refused to comment. Still, fans have already pointed out that Frost made a cryptic Instagram post a few days ago where he wrote, “What a bloody lovely day! It’s happening, it’s actually happening.”
It sounds to me, at least, like he’s just had some very good news. Perhaps he’s just picked up the keys to a certain castle in Scotland?

Regardless of whatever put a smile on Frost’s face, the Harry Potter fandom has already decided it’s true (for the record, it’s not been confirmed yet) and is now demanding another veteran comedy actor be cast next. Yes, they want Frost’s best friend and Cornetto Trilogy co-star, Simon Pegg to join the Wizarding World.
Who do they want him to play? Well, there are those on r/HarryPotter who think he’d make a good Peeves the Poltergeist, while others believe he’d make a perfect Argus Filch, and I must confess I like these options a lot.
Both Peeves and Filch have an antagonistic relationship with Hagrid, and it would be wonderful to see two old pals trading barbs in Hogwarts’ halls.
With that in mind, however, I can’t help but think it would be a shame to waste Pegg’s talents on minor side characters. He deserves something a bit meatier.
Who should Simon Pegg play in Harry Potter?

No, I’m not suggesting he play Dumbledore (and Jonathan Lithgow’s rumored to being measured for the headmaster’s robes as we speak), and he’s a bit old to play Harry, but he’d be a perfect Arthur Weasley.
Afterall, Arthur is a fun and slightly silly character, and we Pegg’s got plenty of experience playing comedy characters. Yet the Weasley patriarch also has a warm and caring side, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen Pegg try something a little more serious (by my reckoning, it was 2020’s frankly dreadful Inheritance).
It’d be great then to see Pegg get out of his comfort zone and do something a bit more dramatic, and I know – thanks to his triumphant turn in World’s End – he can do serious when he needs to. What do you think? Should Pegg start practicing his wand waving or is everyone barking up the wrong tree?
