Overwatch 2 devs finally confirm new hero Freja’s limited time test dates

Blizzard

Freja, the next Damage character coming to Overwatch 2, will receive a full week of new teasers and content, culminating with a three-day gameplay trial for players to test her out.

Freja, the 19th Damage character in the game, was revealed earlier in 2025. Freja is a former search-and-rescue operative for Overwatch, becoming a bounty hunter after the group disbanded.

The character is armed with a crossbow and is intended to be a high skill floor hero, requiring precise aim and game sense with her fast mobility. Freja is set to arrive in Overwatch 2 Season 16, but, prior to her release, will receive tons of teasers, lore, and a gameplay test.

Freja is coming to Overwatch 2 early

Freja’s release will start on March 19, with a new hero trailer to release from Blizzard to showcase some of her backstory. New teasers will drop daily afterwards, with a “motion comic” on March 20 and a gameplay trailer on March 21.

The new content will culminate on March 21, where a gameplay test will be held until March 24 for players to try out her gameplay and provide feedback. Early tests for new heroes are a common practice now for Overwatch 2, and balance adjustments are often made based on feedback during the playtest.

Gameplay for Freja was already made public during the Overwatch Spotlight event, where invited content creators were able to test an early build of her including her Perks. However, this will be the first time Freja is available to play for the public.

Freja is the first new hero to be added during Overwatch 2’s new Perks-era, and she’ll usher in a new slate of heroes designed with Perks in mind. Perk balance has been all over the place, with some heroes getting a drastic increase in power while others have had a minimal boost.

It’s at the point where the dev team plans to remake many of the Perks that are already in the game, with Freja being a golden opportunity for them to show off just how creative they can get with the system when they’ve got a clean slate to design based on.

Overwatch 2’s next hero was already announced as well, Aqua, who is expected to be a support with the ability to control water.
